Skylight Design and Finishes

There a various things to consider when It comes to the design of your VELUX skylight. Externally (on the roof) consideration needs to be taken for the roof type, the roof colour and the roof pitch.

Internally there are many design ideas to consider. Below, we have set out some of our most popular design examples. Shire Skylights are market leaders for skylight installations, we use highly trained tradesmen to fulfil all of our installation projects, ensuring that each installed skylights quality is second to none.

  1. Standard Finish

The minimum finishes that Shire Skylights use when installing a skylight are listed below:

  • Traditional installation
  • Standard skylight void, boxed down to existing ceiling.
  • Skylight positioned between existing truss or rafters – No structural works required
  • Recommended for roof pitch up to 25 Degrees
  • Max roof height space approx. 1.8m
  • Slim line Architrave finish to existing Ceiling
  • 10mm gyprock internal lining
  • Fixings and internal corners patched ready for paint

      2. Mid - Range.

Our mind range finishes include all our standard features with upgraded square set plastering to finish.

  • Traditional installation
  • Standard skylight void, boxed down to existing ceiling.
  • Recommended for roof pitch up to 25 Degrees
  • Max roof height space approx. 1.8m
  • Square set plaster finish to existing ceiling
  • Square set all internal joints and fixings
  • 10mm gyprock internal lining

 

    3. Mid - High Range. Shared skylight void.

A shared skylight void is when multiple skylights are installed into the one skylight void in a straight line. This a great option for maximizing light. Having an operable and fixed skylight combination can also be achieved.

  • Standard skylight void, boxed down to existing ceiling.
  • Recommended for roof pitch up to 25 Degrees
  • Max roof space height approx. 1.8m
  • Square set plaster finish to existing ceiling
  • Square set all internal joints and fixings
  • Slim line architrave can be an alternative to the square set finish
  • 10mm gyprock internal lining

 

      4. Mid - High Range. Skylight Cluster (raked/sloped ceiling)

A Skylight cluster is recommended for raked ceilings. Using a Shire Skylights custom base flashing you can install up to five VELUX Skylights in a row.

  • Shallow skylight void, boxed down to existing ceiling.
  • Recommended for all roof pitches
  • Square set plaster finish to existing ceiling
  • Square set all internal joints and fixings
  • Slim line architrave can be an alternative to the square set finish
  • 10mm gyprock internal lining

5. High Range - Ceiling cut out.

A ceiling cut out is recommended for pitched roofs, using up to three VELUX skylights for each void. The entire skylight void is opened up to create one large light well.

  • Traditional Pitch roof is recommended.
  • Engineering may be required for this installation
  • Recommended for all roof pitches
  • Square set plaster finish to existing ceiling
  • Square set all internal joints and fixings
  • 10mm gyprock internal lining
